Bolzano/Bozen is the capital of South Tyrol and only 15 minutes from Andriano/Andrian on the wine road. Bolzano/Bozen has more than 100,000 inhabitants and is the largest town in the region and the only one with more Italians than German-speaking residents. When you visit Bolzano/Bozen, you definitely should see the Waltherplatz, the Ötzi museum, the fruit market, Castle Runkelstein, the Museion – museum for modern art, the Bolzano/Bozen cathedral, as well as the Lauben (porticos) with its shops. At the Sieges und Gerichtsplatz (victory and court plaza), the fascist buildings remind you of a sad history.

If you drive in the opposite direction, you’ll come to the spa town of Merano/Meran. Merano is a very quaint town, extremely well cared for and even mundane. Visit the ‘Therme‘ (spa facilities), the Gardens of Castle Trauttmansdorff, the Passerpromenade, the Tappeinerweg (Tappeiner walk) and the historic town centre.
